Jesus in the History Books
Guest Speaker: Pastor Rich Edwards
On Wednesday, May 3rd we discussed Jesus according to the history books with Pastor Rich Edwards. This was a fascinating topic. We learned from Flavius Josephus and other notable ancient historians how Jesus was perceived by non-Jews.
As fascinating as this topic was for us, it was more fascinating for the people living during Jesus time. There is more than enough writing on Jesus for us to confirm that He existed, that the biblical accounts of Him are accurate, and that the people He interacted with (Pontius Pilate, Caiaphas, Herod and others) existed at the same time.
Take time to talk with your student(s) about the implications of these historical accounts:
- What was the most interesting part of the historical accounts of Jesus?
- How do these accounts change, confirm, or further your understanding of Jesus?
- How do these accounts change, confirm, or further your understanding of the Bible and its accuracy?
- Was there evidence in those texts that helped you understand that Jesus not only existed, but was the Son of God?
